Not long ago, Christmas came from Mexico to Cedar Rapids:
A group of adults and children huddled beneath the star-shaped pinatas dangling from the ceiling of the fellowship room of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and voiced the words Joseph is said to have spoken as he and Mary, the mother of Jesus, sought shelter in Bethlehem.
Sara Solorio, 8, of Cedar Rapids, hands a bunuelos, a Mexican cinnamon cookie, to her Grandfather, Kenneth Oldenburg of La Crosse, Wis., alongside a sombrero hat during a Posada celebration at Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, December 18, 2004. The Hispanic tradition of Posada commemorates Mary and Joseph's search for an inn in Bethlehem. This is the second year the church has celebrated the holiday by eating traditional Mexican foods, playing Mexican games, and singing Mexican songs. Solorio is a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran church.
