AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Zach Johnson shot a 2-under-par 70 in Thursday's first round of the 2009 Masters.
Johnson had five birdies and three bogeys. He missed a 4-foot par putt on the final hole to cap and up-and-down second nine holes after he got around the first nine with a 3-under 33.
"Good," Johnson described his round. "Yeah. More positives than anything for me."
I'll have a full report of Johnson's day here in 90 minutes or so. In the meantime, here are some highlights of his round:
No. 2 (par 5): Gave himself a 3- to 4-foot birdie putt that he made.
No. 3 (par 4): Chipped in from 20 feet for birdie.
No. 7 (par 4) Made a putt of about 15 feet for birdie.
No. 15 (par 5) Used a 5-wood to reach the green in 2 shots, missed a 10-foot eagle putt, tapped in for birdie.
No. 16 (par 3) 4-foot putt for birdie.
No. 17 (par 4) From a bunker in front of the green about 80 feet from the cup, he left his third shot three feet from the hole and made his par putt.
Statistics: Hit 12 of 18 greens and 10 of 14 fairways in regulation. Had 28 putts. Did not have a 3-putt.
