Fagan's in No Hurry

May. 12, 2009 3:23 pm
Cedar Rapids City Council member Brian Fagan says it's too early to jump into the race for mayor.
"I'm absolutely thinking about it," Fagan said this afternoon. "But it's still a ways off."
Fagan insists Ron Corbett's early splash as the only announced hopeful doesn't add any sense of urgency to his own decision.
He contends it hasn't been all that long ago that we bid a fond farewell to the seemingly endless 2008 election cycle. He's not eager to start the next election season at this point.
He also argues that his ongoing work as a council member on big issues like flood recovery and economic development should take precedence over politics right now.
"I think that will bear itself out," Fagan said of the race, noting that the last mayoral election after charter change didn't start until July-August.
"It's a local election," he said.
Fagan says he has no time frame in mind for making a final decision.
