Regina grabs big lead at Class 2A state golf meet

Gazette staff report MARSHALLTOWN - Iowa City Regina appears to be well on its way to winning the Class 2A girls state golf championship. The Regals, led by seniors Missie and Katie Feuerbach, shot a first-day 332 on Monday at the Legion Golf Course, 30 shots better than second-place Carroll Kuemper. Missie Feuerbach shot a 78 and is tied for second in the individual race, four shots behind Kristen Montag of Central Springs. Katie Feuerbach shot 79 and is tied with Dyersville Beckman freshman Ellie Ament for fourth place. In Class 4A play at Elmwood Country Club, Western Dubuque junior Ali Daly shot an 81, leaving her in a fourth-place tie, six shots behind Ames' Katie Purcell. In the team race, Iowa City High shot 382 and is in seventh place. Ames leads in 4A. Ballard (380) leads in 3A, also being played at Elmwood Country Club. Clear Lake is four shots back. Washington (Iowa) is in sixth place after shooting a 401. And in 1A play at the Legion Golf Course, Algona Garrigan (347), leads by six shots over Grundy Center.
