Minor leaguer's hit streak ends at 45

High Desert outfielder James McOwen had his hit streak snapped at 45 games Friday night by Modesto. The Seattle Mariners farmhand, and former Midwest Leaguer (Wisconsin), went 0-for-3 with a walk, striking out in his final at-bat in the ninth inning.
McOwen's streak is the eighth-longest in minor league baseball history. Joe Wilhoit has the longest, 69 games in 1919.
"I'm a little disappointed but not too bad," McOwen told www.minorleaguebaseball.com. "I'm pretty happy with the way the last month and a half has gone. There're no regrets and, hopefully, I'll start another one tomorrow."
