Kernels routed in finale at Quad Cities

Quad Cities scored three runs in the first inning, added five more in the fourth and buried Cedar Rapids in a Midwest League game, 11-4, at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport.
The River Bandits scored 11 runs on just seven hits, and the Kernels committed no error. Cedar Rapids pitchers did issue nine walks, six of them by starter Tyler Chatwood (3-7).
- On tap: C.R. Kernels begin nine-game, eight-day homestand Saturday night with a 6:35 game against the Beloit Snappers, who are in town through Monday. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are here Aug. 11-14
- Notes: It's a rare day-night doubleheader of seven-inning games Saturday. The 12:35 p.m. game is free with the Kernels accepting donations for the Salvation Army and its Direct Assistance/Flood Relief program. The stadium will be cleared before the 6:35 p.m. game that will be followed by fireworks ... Tonight is Progressive Beer Night, starting at 5:30 p.m. with $1 beer ... The Kernels 2009 Hall of Fame class will be recognized Sunday before a 2:05 p.m. game ... The four-game Timber Rattlers series begins Tuesday and is highlighted by Thirsty Thursday and Jimmy Buffett Night Aug. 14. All four games start at 6:35 p.m.
