Many ignorant about government programs

At a recent town hall meeting, a man stood up and told South Carolina Republic Bob Inglis to “keep your government hands off my Medicare.” Inglis said, “I had to explain that, ‘Actually, sir, your health care is being provided by the government,'” but he wasn't having any of it.
Because so many Americans are ignorant about the simple facts of life, even their own, the medical industrial complex can hold decent people and the entire nation hostage over health, while bankrupting us all.
Recent anti-government letters in The Gazette reflect the same ignorance. As the old story goes, an American is someone who eats his (government-inspected) breakfast, drives on the (government-inspected) highway, goes to his (government-subsidized) defense-related job, is glad that his parents are receiving (government-provided) Social Security and Medicare so they are not a burden to him, puts his paycheck in his (government-insured) bank account, and then goes home and writes a letter to the editor about excessive government.
Is there a cure for ignorance, and is it covered by insurance? Many demonized government programs work very well, but people take them so much for granted they don't even recognize it.
