Government prejudice doesn’t match reality
The Gazette Opinion Staff

People say that government health care would turn out to be like the Post Office or the Department of Motor Vehicles. Why are these public functions automatically assumed to be bad? The Post Office provides good service.
I buy a lot of stuff on the Internet that gets mailed to me, and I send a lot of stuff out, and the Post Office is very dependable. Nobody likes going to the DMV, but the one I renewed my driver's license at recently seemed well-managed. I waited for only five minutes and was helped by nice women.
In general, is dealing with these government agencies any worse than, say, dealing with the cable company? I waited longer on hold with my cable company than I did in person at the DMV. And don't get me started on my cell phone company's terrible customer service.
The prejudice against government is exaggerated. I wish that health care worked as well as the Post Office. I would love to pay a reasonable premium for such good service.
