Cassell has right idea on Gates controversy
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 11, 2009 12:56 am
Regarding Karl Cassell's Aug. 5 guest column on the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. in Cambridge, Mass., by Sgt. James Crowley: Cassell's thoughts are the calmest, most reasoned and reassuring comments I've read on the issues. The citizens of Cedar Rapids should be commended for the selection of Cassell as executive director of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission.
If his leadership of the commission is in line with his thoughts articulated in the column, the city will receive balanced, unruffled guidance as it confronts similar challenges.
