Town hall disruptions are not democratic
Aug. 15, 2009 12:05 am
A panel member on Chris Wallace's show stated there's nothing wrong with people disrupting town hall meetings because it falls under freedom of assembly. She's wrong.
The privilege of having a town-hall meeting where people can gather to learn facts and voice their views in a civil manner falls under freedom of assembly. The debate seems to be over whether these disruptions are democracy in action or are the intruders just mobs. The answer should be easy. The town hall meeting itself is democracy in action.
Showing up with the sole purpose of disrupting that process is characteristic of a mob interfering with freedom of assembly. Those people had better get a handle on what democracy really is or this country is headed for a lot of violence.
What do the history books say about the Roman Empire destroying itself from within?
