Kernels roll to win at Clinton

Adam Younger had a two-RBI double in a three-run fourth inning and Roberto Lopez hit a two-run homer in the ninth, lifting the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 6-2 win over the Clinton LumberKings in Midwest League action Saturday night at Alliant Energy Field.
Cedar Rapids (66-53 overall, 26-23 second half) got solid pitching from winner Matt Shoemaker, who gave up one earned run and seven hits in six innings, striking out seven. Lopez went 3-for-4 for Cedar Rapids, which moved to within 2 1/2 games of Peoria in the Western Division standings.
The two teams play the second game of the four-game series Sunday at 2 p.m.
