Red-light left turners pose danger to others
The Gazette Opinion Staff

When did yielding to oncoming traffic become obsolete? It is commonplace these days to see drivers ignoring the fact that their left-turn signal has turned red. These dangerous drivers will continue to turn left in the face of oncoming traffic as if they are the only people on the road. And more often than not, those folks who do have the green light are forced to sit until someone with a conscience decides to stop and let them go.
By that time, only one or two oncoming cars can make it through their turn at a green light. Then, two or three more left turners will decide they should go through a totally red light.
Accidents continue to pile up for drivers who are just selfish as well as for the unfortunate innocents in their way.
Is a minute or two sitting at a red light really worth the chance of causing an accident that could cause serious injury or death? Are you really in that big of a hurry?
