'Cop killing' wrong way to address I.C. incident
Aug. 25, 2009 12:04 am
I find it very hard to agree with The Gazette's headline in the Aug. 16 paper, “Victim of cop killing laid to rest.” It makes it sound like the officer is a killer when in fact you reported the person had a knife and would not drop it and had just stabbed a person earlier.
A knife is a deadly weapon, and granted it would have been better if the officer would have shot the person in the leg or some other place. However, if someone is coming after you with a knife, there is not much time to react. We entrust and pay our officers to keep our streets safe, and I would like to believe The Gazette could have called this something beside a “cop killing.”
