At-large council candidate Chuck Swore maintains a sense of humor as surgery for prostate cancer put off until Sept. 14

Chuck Swore, an at-large City Council candidate and a prior council member, is keeping his sense of humor even as he is wrestling with prostate cancer.
Swore -- never one to shy away from offering input during public policy discussions -- reports that he was on the operating table last Wednesday with his surgeon at the ready to begin cancer surgery. Unfortunately, he reports, the anesthesiologist was unable to get a breathing tube down his throat and the surgery was scrapped. It's been rescheduled for Sept. 14.
“I've known for years that I had a very small mouth,” says Swore, who adds he was looking forward to getting the surgery behind him.
Swore, 66, is a retired Acme Electric vice president and general manager.
He represented west-side District 4 on the council in 2006 and 2007. He was defeated for reelection in 2007 by Chuck Wieneke.
Swore served for 23 years as chairman of the Five Seasons Facilities Commission during a period in which the city built its downtown arena, now called the U.S. Cellular Center. He spent five years on the City Planning Commission before his 2005 council run.
