TerryWatch Update

Sep. 1, 2009 10:53 am
The DM Register reports this morning that former Gov. Tery Branstad is looking "a bit harder" at running again.
The paper reports that he's asked longtime confidant and former Republican state chair Rich Schwarm to survey the landscape with regard to fund-raising and staffing needs. And he has told the Des Moines University board that's he's thinking over a run. Branstad is president of DMU.
Still, he won't decide until October.
If he does get in, he won't be the only former gov trying to make a comeback. Taegan Goddard's Political Wire notes that five ex-governors are considering runs in 2010. And that doesn't count former New York governor and Client No. 9 Eliot Spitzer, who is mulling a return to politics.
Elsewhere, conservative WHO radio firebrand Steve Deace offers up an eight-step program to transform Branstad into Terrybob Vander Branstad. Evidently, he wants Branstad's favorable rating to drop to 28 percent. Branstad is simply too popular to unite the Republican Party.
But the Fort Dodge Messenger opines that Branstad may be the answer "both to the rebuilding Iowa's Republican Party and ensuring a top-notch chief executive for our state."
Stay tuned to this channel for additional TerryWatches and possible warnings. That is all.
