NOT AGAIN: Marion's Thomas Park is a beautiful picnic and recreation facility with a popular trail that connects with three other parks. But the severe flash flooding of last week inflicted $250,000 worth of damage on the park and trail. It was the third major flooding on the trail in recent years.

FOULED OUT: Roy Marble, the University of Iowa's all-time leading scorer in basketball, has been whistled for a major infraction. On Aug. 24, a Cedar County Sheriff's deputy arrested Marble for speeding, possession of marijuana and an open can of beer in his car. A week later, he was fired as program director for the Iowa City Mayor's Youth Empowerment Program. Officials said they knew of Marble's previous convictions but hoped he could teach kids what he'd learned from his experience.

TRAGEDY AGAIN: Clear Creek Amana High School students, staff and parents are dealing with another tragic loss. Alyssa Benedict, a new student in the district, was killed in a rollover crash Thursday night on I-380 that also injured two friends. The death was the 10th in 15 years involving a district student. Thankfully, it appears Rachel Petersen and the driver, Rachel Stewart, will fully recover.
