Assistance to banks pays off for government
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 10, 2009 12:11 am
Finally some good news for taxpayers. Our government recently collected a $4 billion profit from eight of the biggest banks that have repaid the bailout money. It works out to an annual return of about 15 percent, according to the New York Times (www.nytimes.com/2009/08/31/
business/economy/
31taxpayer.html?hp).
I wonder what the people who think that the government can never do anything right will say? Just like they did with the Cash for Clunkers program, I doubt they will accept that an idea from the Democrats is working, and very well at that.
