Soldiers in Iraq wake up early to watch Iowa beat Penn State
Sep. 30, 2009 4:29 pm
This unedited note was passed by Sgt. Ben Barnes to the Iowa Sports Information Department:
I thought some people from back home might want to see this photo. This photo is of soldiers with the 294th Area Support Medical Battalion out of Camp Dodge, IA and currently stationed at Camp Taji, Iraq. In this photo you have current University of Iowa students, Alumni, and just born and raised Hawkeye fans. We got up at 3 AM to watch the Hawks pound the Nittany Lions on AFN or Armed Forces Network. We reserved a projector at the MWR building and watched it on a huge screen. It was great- it truly makes for a great week over here when the Hawks win, pass that along to Coach..... This photo was taken by myself- Sgt Ben Barnes- a proud graduate of the University--- GO HAWKS!
Assistant Iowa Sports Information Director Chris Brewer plans to send DVDs from Iowa's football games to Nick Vellema (fan on the far left in glasses).
