Obama lays groundwork for more peaceful world
Oct. 13, 2009 12:58 am
President Barack Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. He has done a lot for peace in his short nine months as president.
Obama signed the nuclear treaty at the United Nations, which to the international community was huge. He has reversed the presidential mentality that existed under President George W. Bush, which was, “Attack first, find proof later, and it's not important what the rest of the world thinks.”
Obama has changed the tone of diplomacy in the world. He is trying to talk to, not attack, countries such as Iran and North Korea. Each time a president uses diplomacy to address people who are not friends of the United States, it means that he is in fact preventing the deaths of men and women in our armed forces.
Obama also is laying stones to building a more peaceful world. Some of his countrymen, who focus on what isn't accomplished yet, may not understand. But the rest of the world understands why he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.
