Iowa City native Nate Kaeding became the most accurate kicker in NFL history Monday night, but just for one quarter. Kaeding's third field goal of the night from 50 yards put him ahead of Mike Vanderjagt in all-time field goal percentage (86.57) . With San Diego trailing Denver 34-23 late in the game, Nate missed a 55 yard field goal and he was back to the second most accurate kicker in NFL history. Kaeding has connected on 129 of 150 field goals for an 86.0 percentage. Vanderjagt is the most accurate again at 86.5 percent. The former Hawkeye and Lou Groza award winner was drafted in the third round of the 2004 NFL draft. Kaeding won three state titles his senior year in high school at Iowa City West (football, basketball, soccer). Nate scored the game winning goal in the state championship soccer game. Congrats Nate! And just like a fine wine Kaeding will continue to get better with age and the record will be his again. Nate has the perfect mix of athleticism, competitiveness, and good ole fashion work ethic.
