Power has been restored across Alliant Energy's service territory this morning, after an outage Tuesday night that affected all four quadrants of Cedar Rapids and parts of Palo and Vinton.
Alliant customers in Cedar Rapids saw power return by 10:05 p.m. after an hour and a half outage. Power was restored around midnight for customers in Palo and Vinton.
More than 12,000 Linn County residents lost power Tuesday night after a circuit breaker malfunctioned at around 8:45 p.m.
Alliant officials are still looking into what caused the outage, but say that a giant circuit breaker at the Sixth Street station transmission line was tripped.
