(AP) - Vandalism done to several buses forced the closing of Indianola schools.
Superintendent Mike Teigland decided early Friday to close the schools after vandals damaged the coolant tanks of 14 buses, causing all the coolant fluid to leak out.
Teigland says the vandal opened the bus hoods and broke the connectors that seal the rubber hoses onto the coolant tank. School officials need to replace the whole tank on every damaged bus.
Authorities say many parents learned about the districtwide closure upon arrival at school, forcing them to find last-minute daycare plans or adjust their work schedules.
Officials say they fully expect schools to be open on Monday.
