Religion a leading cause of suffering in world
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 17, 2009 11:27 pm
The writer of a Nov. 4 letter lamented “all the warring, human-to-human violence, suffering, starvation, dissension, discrimination and hate” in the world, and continued “it might be a good time to ask ourselves some questions, consider a new path, some new priorities and quite simply, a better way.” Wonderful advice.
However, his suggestion for a “new path” was to spend more time with God. Regrettably, he failed to realize that religion is by far the leading cause of all the things he was lamenting.
If people truly want to combat those things, the very best thing they can do is turn away from religion. They should educate themselves about the very real horrors of religion, speak out against religion as much as possible and never, ever give time nor money to any religious organization.
And if they want to be charitable, they should give their time and money to the various secular charities that will use them to do such things as save animals, suffering people and the environment, without all the sociopathic baggage of religion.
