You probably won't be breaking out any snow shovels, but there's a chance we could see some snowflakes in Eastern Iowa by midweek -- and travel plans could be impacted as a result.
KCRG-TV9 chief meteorologist Joe Winters says an area of low pressure, now developing on the lee side of the Rockies, is pushing very slowly toward the Midwest. Southerly winds ahead of the front will bring some moisture into the region by Tuesday.
At this point, Winters says, rain is in the forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday. But late Wednesday into Thursday some cooler temperatures could turn the precipitation to snow.
It's not likely the snow will accumulate in any significant amounts, but it could stick to grassy areas. The mix could also make for some slippery roads, Winters says.
Temperatures will also be dropping this week as the transition to winter begins. After a high of 55 today, highs will drop to 46 Tuesday, 40 Wednesday and just 36 degrees for Thanksgiving Day. Thursday's low may hit 24 degrees. Then a slight warmup returns for the weekend, with highs in the low to mid 40s and just a slight chance of precipitation later Sunday.
