The Corbett for Governor campaign has started. But it's not a campaign for Cedar Rapids' newly elected mayor, Ron Corbett.

Tom Corbett, the attorney general of Pennsylvania, is the Republican who has launched a Corbett for Governor campaign.

Some – a couple, at least – political junkies in Cedar Rapids had speculated that Ron Corbett hoped to propel a campaign for something bigger by winning the Cedar Rapids mayor's job.

Corbett, a former state lawmaker and former speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives, has scoffed at such suggestions when asked about them.

In truth, some also have seen council member Brian Fagan, who was defeated by Corbett in the race for mayor, as a Cedar Rapidian with a bright political future beyond City Hall.
