The attorney for a man accused of killing an Iowa high school football coach has waived his right to a speedy trial in a separate eluding police case.
Butler County online court records show attorney Susan Flander on Dec. 2 waived Mark Becker's speedy trial rights until Feb. 26.
A judge had not acted on the waiver by Monday. Becker's trial on the eluding charge is set for Jan. 12.
Becker, of Parkersburg, is accused of threatening a Cedar Falls man and damaging his garage on June 20. He then led police on a chase. After his arrest, Becker was admitted to a Waterloo hospital for evaluation, then released June 23.
The next morning he allegedly shot Aplington-Parkersburg High School coach Ed Thomas.
Becker is charged with first-degree murder. A trial date in that case has not been set.
