(AP) - The attorney for a man accused of killing an Iowa high school football coach has waived his right to a speedy trial until February.
Mark Becker is charged with first-degree murder in the June shooting death of Aplington-Parkersburg coach Ed Thomas.
Becker's attorney Susan Flander filed a motion Friday in Butler County District Court to waive Becker's right to a speedy trial.
Flander in October filed a motion asking that Becker's trial be held by Jan. 30. She has now waived that deadline until Feb 26, meaning the trial must be held by then.
Becker has been found compentent to stand trial. A trial date hasn't been set.
Thomas led the Aplington-Parkersburg team for 34 season and was named the NFL's High School Coach of the Year in 2005.
