Dec. 15, 2009 12:51 pm
The city of Cedar Falls has approved a new ordinance expanding the number of residents who have to get flood insurance.
The ordinance was approved Monday night and takes effect Jan. 1. It says that everyone living in the 500-year flood plain, instead of the 100-year flood plain, has to have flood insurance.
It also bans new construction in the flood plain.
The changes come after last year's record floods.
