A man suffered minor injuries when he was robbed early this morning while he was walking in Iowa City, police said.
Officers responded to Dodge and Burlington streets at 2:45 a.m. when the robbery was reported. The victim told them he was walking north in the 400 block of South Dodge Street when he was approached from behind by two men.
The men asked the victim where they could find Dodge Street, and the victim kept walking as he replied that they were already on Dodge Street. The suspects ran up on the victim and struck him in the back of the head and face, causing him to fall, police said.
Personal property was taken from the victim before the robbers ran north on Dodge Street. He had minor injuries but declined medical treatment, police said.
The suspects are described as black men in their late teens or early 20s. One of the suspects was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 with a stocky build and was wearing a light-colored T-shirt, police said.
A reward of up to $1,000 is available through Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers for information leading to the arrest of these suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477) and refer to incident No. 2009066322. Anonymous tips are accepted.
