Iowa public health officials say a possible winter storm this week could make for a health hazard with icy sidewalks and roadways.
The Iowa Department of Public Health says trips and falls are among the most common causes of accidental deaths.
Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk says a slip on the ice doesn't always mean a serious injury or death, but a fall can be painful and sometimes debilitating.
She says more than half of falls on ice happen between 6 a.m. and noon.
Health officials say take extra precautions. Those include wearing shoes or boots with good traction and taking extra care when entering a building because melted snow can cause slippery conditions indoors.
