Naive to have terrorist detainees inside U.S.
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 26, 2009 11:59 pm
Some people were actually upset that Republican Congressman Tom Latham of Iowa last month proposed a bill that would keep the terrorist detainees that are being housed on Guantanamo Bay out of the Midwest, in a jail right across the border from Iowa. I find it hard to believe anyone would think having terrorists in our backyard is a good idea.
These are people who hate everything about this country, want its destruction and their partners in crime will stop at nothing to free them or to avenge their imprisonment, which could include a bombing in a local community or the taking of civilian hostages for their demands.
Since President Obama has taken office, he has directed this country back to the pre-9-11 mentality that these foreign terrorist acts are criminal acts, not acts of war.
Our administration does not even refer to it as the war on terror anymore and our Homeland Security secretary refers to 9-11 attacks as the “man-made disasters.”
To top it off, the prisoners are going to be given full constitutional rights, just as the common criminal has for shoplifting, instead of being tried in military courts.
How could this president and anyone who loves this country be so naive? Will it take another horrific incident to wake them up?
