Regarding Sinclair Broadcasting Corp. and Mediacom: Once again not only are greedy media business goliaths showing little regard to the interest of the public but are also hurting the bottom line of area businesses. Because of the hype of not being able to carry the Iowa game or NFL playoffs, many businesses (including the Eagles Club of Iowa City) rushed to get satellite in order to satisfy the needs of its members.
Then, they have suddenly decided to carry the Orange Bowl, meaning many potential customers stayed home to watch the game. On average, our patrons spend around $20 per game. Figuring we lost about 100 fans who stayed home, that is a total of $2,000 that we, a charitable organization, will lose and not be able to use toward our stated objective of “People helping people.”
We hope you will include this item during your upcoming “negotiations,” and however you decide to reimburse us, we look forward to receiving a check from either one or both parties.
