UPDATE: The winter's latest storm system is drawing a bead on Eastern Iowa, where some areas can expect up to 10 inches of snow.
“We're looking at basically the Highway 30 corridor as where we could see some higher amounts - 8 to 10 inches, pretty much along its length across Eastern Iowa,” said Chris Legro, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Davenport.
The snow should begin falling in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City about 3 p.m. and continue through Thursday night, but the light, fluffy snow could continue to affect travel through Saturday as winds freshen Thursday evening to the 30-mph range, causing drifting.
“It's going to be very easy for the wind to drift it,” Legro said.
After a modest warming to the midteens today, those north winds on the storm's trailing edge will bring subzero temperatures back to the area Thursday, with potentially dangerous windchills through Saturday.
“I wish I had better news about that,” Legro said.
Once we endure this latest blast, things could turn warmer, relatively, early next week, with high temperatures in the mid-20s possible.
