Obama knows, acts like we’re in a war
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is trying to exploit the attempted Christmas Day terrorist attack for political gain. He accuses President Barack Obama of “trying to pretend we're not at war,” thereby making us less safe.
Obama has said over and over that we are at war against terrorists. He said it as a candidate. He said it in his inaugural address. (“Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred.”) He has said it many times since.
Obama is sending tens of thousands of new troops to Afghanistan in an attempt to avoid losing a war that the Bush/Cheney administration started but then virtually abandoned. The president has authorized strikes against al-Qaida in Pakistan and Yemen.
Cheney started his career through misrepresentation and has continued to build on his mountain of half-truths.
