Four people were taken to hospitals after a school van and a car collided near Walford this morning, authorities said.
Kelly Klekar, 29, of Cedar Rapids, was driving a College Community School District van transporting two students to school when a car driven by Keela Sherman, 25, of Marengo crossed from the westbound lane along 120th Street just west of Calkins Avenue NW, about 7:15 a.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The vehicles collided head-on. Sherman told troopers she became ill, causing her to lose control of her car, according to Trooper Mike Hicks.
Sherman and van passengers Kyle Ongie, 15, and Blake Heitz, 11, both of Walford, were all taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Information on their condition wasn't released Thursday.
Klekar sought treatment from her family doctor, according to Hicks.
College Community spokesman Steve Doser said the two students were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids “as a precaution,” and the driver was OK. The van was on its normal route to school, he said.
