Forum on downtown C.R. parking set for Friday

CEDAR RAPIDS - The city of Cedar Rapids and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District will hold a forum on parking from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel ballroom, 350 First Ave. NE.

The session will includes a presentation about proposed improvements to the current downtown parking system, round-table discussions to gather input and feedback and a question-and-answer period. Participants also will be able to preview new parking technology and user-friendly signage.

The information gathered at the forum will be used to create a comprehensive parking strategic plan.

“This parking plan will serve as a road map to a parking system that drives economic development in downtown Cedar Rapids,” City Council member Kris Gulick said.

People attending the forum who park in the Five Season Parking Ramp will receive a validation sticker for free parking during the event.

Changes that are proposed after the forum could be implemented as early as this summer.
