The Linn County supervisors have pulled out the trimmers this afternoon to try to make up a $2 million projected shortfall in its 2010/2011 budget.
Revenue projections are down $1.6 million for the Sheriff's Office's operation of the jail and about $400,000 for county investments.
The supervisors learned this morning they must either cut $2 million from their proposed budget or raise the property tax levy rate by 23 cents per $1,000 valuation in the coming fiscal year.
Discussion of possible cuts is underway and supervisors expect to vote on whether to freeze the salaries of elected officials.
