A winter storm bringing widespread snow to Iowa is causing big travel problems especially in western Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Transportation on Monday says a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 29 remained closed in both directions from Missouri Valley to Sioux City because of numerous accidents and whiteout conditions.
Officials say all stranded motorists were rescued.
The department says I-29 won't reopen until the winds ease. The interstate was initially closed Sunday afternoon.
Light snow fell across most of Iowa overnight, with an inch or 2 common. Strong winds up to 25 mph were creating blowing and drifting snow.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for central and western Iowa on Monday.
