Twenty months after the June 2008 flood, City Hall on Friday bought out the first three flood-damaged properties in what will be a buyout spree that is expect to reach 1,300 homes and other properties.
Stacy and John Michalec sit outside their current home in NW Cedar Rapids on Friday, February 19, 2010. The Michalec's are receiving a buyout on a flooded property they owned at 1426 3rd Street NW. The Michalecs were not living at the 3rd Street home at the time of the 2008 flood, but were renting it out with plans to sell it until the flood ravaged the property. (Cliff Jette/The Gazette)
