Solon/Mid-Prairie meet again - this time at state tourney

Mid-Prairie ended Solon's 33-game boys' basketball win streak via a 55-52 upset win Dec. 22 at Solon. Now the longtime rivals meet again ... this time in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
Mid-Prairie (19-5) is the sixth seed in Class 2A and will play third-seeded Solon (23-2) in a 1:45 p.m. quarterfinal Tuesday, March 9 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The defending 2A champion, Solon surprised a lot of people with a 61-32 blowouts of Danville (22-2) in a substate final Saturday night at Bettendorf. The Spartans led at halftime, 33-11.
Mid-Prairie earned its way back to state with a 46-34 substate final win over Albia (19-6) at Oskaloosa. Iowa Hawkeye football recruit Tanner Miller had a game-high 18 points for the Golden Hawks.
Turkey Valley (19-6) earned its way to Iowa's "Big Dance" via a 48-46 substate final win Saturday night over Dyersville Beckman in Manchester. The Trojans are the state tournament's No. 7 seed, drawing second-seeded and unbeaten IKM-Manning (24-0) in a 2A quarterfinal at 12:05, March 9.
Des Moines Christian (26-0) is 2A's top seed.
