Assisted-living folks still need family’s love

I reside in an assisted-living facility and have been blessed with a loving, caring family who make an effort to check in with me to see if there is anything I need, drop by to chat, go for a ride or out to eat - just some of life's little pleasures when you give up some of your independence. I love my “home.”
Are you considering putting your mom or dad in an assisted-living facility? That's wonderful. This is a great idea and you research the options available, find a really nice place that is highly recommended, make a visit to tour the operations and decide it's perfect for mom or dad. They will be taken care of.
Then it's “Here we go, dump the dear ones.” I have seen this on a daily basis. Many of my friends have families that just don't have the time for a visit or even a phone call. They anxiously wait in the lobby to see if their loved ones will have the time today to stop by or think they may be missing that phone call. It is so sad to see the disappointment in their faces.
If this hits home for any of the readers, keep this in mind. We are old and maybe a little senile, but still need that loving concern of our kids.
