Iowa recruits express frustration with coaching situation
Mar. 13, 2010 2:58 pm
Iowa's basketball recruits remain as in the dark about the future of the Iowa basketball program as everyone else near it.
Ben Brust said Saturday afternoon he has yet to hear from either Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta or Coach Todd Lickliter, just three days after Lickliter's status as coach became tenuous at best. Lickliter wrapped up his third season at Iowa with a school-record 22 losses and is 38-58 overall.
"At first I was thinking about it all the time," Brust said. "Now you just sit here and wait. My nerves have settled down some because it's out of my control.
"I'm just hoping Coach Lick can stay."
Iowa Sports Information Director Phil Haddy said Lickliter and Barta will meet in the coming days, as they do at the conclusion of every season.
Brust, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Mundelein, Ill., said he he sent Barta an e-mail Thursday expressing support for Lickliter. He met with Lickliter after Thursday's loss to Michigan and expressed his support. He also seemed aggravated by how the process has dragged along.
"I'm just taking it day by day," Brust said. "When it happens -- if it happens -- we'll go from there."
Brust said he and fellow recruit Devyn Marble (6-foot-5, Detroit) have talked about the situation. Marble didn't return calls about the situation, but expressed his frustration via Twitter.
"once again ima say I'm not doin ne interviews or answerein ne questions on the situation wit the iowa coachin staff as of now" Marble wrote in a tweet. He later tweeted: "win im ready i will let everyone no how i feel n how i plan to handle the hole situation."
