C.R. leaders have the wrong priorities
The Gazette Opinion Staff

A warm feeling of confidence should now be welling up in the hearts of all Cedar Rapids citizens. The reason is that our mayor and council seem to have prioritized our needs quite well.
First, it appears we will have downtown fireworks, despite the debate over security costs.
Then on to the historical Sinclair smokestack. A feasibility study has been made possible by private funding. If the study is positive, rest assured that the city will step forward and fund part or all of the actual preservation work.
Also, the new library site has been chosen - the most expensive one of course.
I myself hope the smokestack preservation becomes a reality. Just the awe-struck reaction when you take an out-of-town visitor to see the smokestack, and then swing by the famous City of Five Seasons tree. You should take along some smelling salts, as your visitor might just faint.
