CEDAR RAPIDS - The Federal Emergency Management Agency's temporary housing program, which helped more than 500 Iowa families after floodwaters destroyed their homes in 2008, will end June 27.
The program provides disaster survivors with temporary housing until they can find new permanent homes or repair their damaged ones. The agency sheltered 564 Iowa families at the peak of the disaster. As of Thursday, just 20 families still lived in the temporary units.
“Iowans should be commended for their perseverance and determination as they worked hard to get back into their repaired homes in their old neighborhood, or to a new place where they can call their own,” said Iowa Recovery Center director Kay Phillips.
