A hearing is set in the case against a Chariton boy accused of killing his stepfather.
The 13-year-old boy is charged in juvenile court with first-degree murder in the Feb. 10 shooting death of Todd Peek. He also faces charges for allegedly trying to kill his mother and a 5-year-old girl.
A hearing on Monday will decide whether the boy is tried as a youthful offender, which would make him eligible for rehabilitation or punishment when he becomes an adult.
Meanwhile, it's still unclear who will represent the boy.
A judge rejected a request by the boy's family for a private attorney. The boy is currently represented by a public defender.
The judge allowed more arguments on the matter, but hasn't issued a ruling.
The Associated Press doesn't name juveniles charged in a crime.
