Keep an eye on council in post-Prosser C.R.

As I watch the 6 p.m. news tonight (Monday), I see that our city manager, Jim Prosser, has resigned. I was not
disappointed in the
decision but I was concerned with the implication of it.
It appears that we have come back to the “good old boy” (and girl) network that we had under the commission form of government. There seems to be a block with council members Monica Vernon, Chuck Swore, Pat Shey and, for the most part, Don Karr.
I had hoped that with the new form of local government in Cedar Rapids, this would be put to rest, but obviously I was wrong! We have a number of years left before we vote for re-election, but things I am sure coming in the future will keep this alliance in the forefront.
I need to extend my appreciation for council members Chuck Wieneke, Kris Gulick Tom Podzimek and Justin Shields for their diligent service to represent the citizens and not the special interest group that is obviously forming on the council.
I ask that the council not vote on any measure that Mr. Prosser has been involved in, as these types of decisions have a long-term effect on the community. The Council needs to go back and re-establish the guidelines on these decisions in light of this week's departure of Mr. Prosser.
I hope citizens pay attention to this new council and take names and accountability for whatever decisions they make and remember them at the next election.
