Stories on the Floods of 2008 were touching
Apr. 26, 2010 12:30 am
A big thank you for reporter Adam Belz's April 20 story (“Floods of 2008 - And so it ends”) and The Gazette's April 21 editorial (“Memories can't be demolished”).
Both of these articles were touching and compassionate and meant so much to me. That was the home I spent my childhood in and I know how difficult it was for Dad to see it being demolished - especially after 83 years.
And yes, it was another chapter closed but, oh, the wonderful memories we have, like so many other flood victims' memories, will never be demolished.
I think back to when we mucked out our home that had 15 feet of flood water and piled possessions 10 feet high at the curb. Those too, were memories of a lifetime. These last 18-plus months have been very difficult and traumatic for the flood victims in many ways, not just financially. To have a lifetime dumped out at the curb and a gigantic machine demolish your home is very painful to see.
I imagine many flood victims can easily identify with these articles.
