Homers: What's going right
Apr. 26, 2010 12:35 am
TAKING CHARGE: Neighbors upset by gatherings of young adults who hold loud, messy, drinking and drug-dealing parties in Cedar Rapids' Redmond Park are doing something about it. Residents visit the park often to discourage such groups and make sure it's safe for kids. They're working with police, calling when they see sense trouble brewing. Such teamwork is a model for other neighborhoods.

BACK IN THE VILLAGE: The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, flooded out of its building in 2008, has a presence in Czech Village again. The temporary location in the former Kosek building opened April 17. A multimedia exhibit tells the story of Czechs and Slovaks in Cedar Rapids and the 2008 flood. Funding for the $2 million project came from the state I-JOBS program, Czech Republic donations and private gifts.

HEALTH CARE PLANNING: The Cedar Rapids Healthcare Alliance Board recognizes that it must change to better address health care challenges. The board is seeking 10 volunteers to participate in strategic planning sessions. If you're interested, contact Carla Huber at (319) 558-4045 or chuber@pcofiowa.com
