Brands throwing first pitch for softball game

University of Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands will get to show off his arm Sunday. Brands will be throwing out the first pitch at the Hawkeyes softball game against Ohio State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Brands also did the same last season in a double-header against Illinois.

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa wrestling Head Coach Tom Brands will throw out the first pitch before Sunday's game vs. 19th-ranked Ohio State, scheduled for 1 p.m.

Brands recently led the Hawkeye wrestling team to its third-consecutive national championship, and its 23rd title overall. Brands also guided Iowa to Big Ten regular season and team titles for the third year in a row, earning Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.

Sunday will be “Softball Tailgate Day” at Pearl Field. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m., with inflatable games for children before the game. Fans will also receive free frozen custard, courtesy of Culver's, after the game.
