Congress: Give us some answers on debt
The Gazette Opinion Staff
May. 3, 2010 12:24 am
Well, Congress, what about our national debt? Do you have a plan to restore fiscal responsibility to our country and personal credibility with your constituents? Here's a plan you might use to reduce the debt:
Step 1: Declare our indebtedness impossible to pay off. Ever.
Step 2: Offer all our country's creditor nations a lucrative lease on all natural resources in our western states. Will it be enough to pay off our debts to all these countries?
Bonus: Do it in the name of international cooperation and diversity. It will speed passage. Then tack on an amendment that gives instant amnesty to all foreign residents legal or otherwise.
Don't you see? You won't have to raise taxes on anyone, ever. And if you make everyone a U.S. citizen, you're sure to have a lifetime job. They'll vote you in, forever.
But wait - here's a simple start to a real plan: Just stop spending. It's your job.
Another hint: Pass a fair flat tax where everyone pays a reasonable, fixed percent of their income, the same percent for everyone. It's far more sensible than the insidiously hidden Value Added Tax you're talking about. The flat tax will eliminate our need for the IRS, net our treasury a windfall of cash and eliminate many expensive government employees as well as the dreadfully complicated existing income tax.
Let us see you develop this idea and show some real concern for the future of our country.
If you don't, we'll start replacing you in November.
